Australia’s second-tier Championship has introduced penalty shootouts after drawn group-stage matches, with the shootout winner receiving a bonus point. Drawn games will still count officially as draws, but the winning side will collect two competition points overall.

The format will apply during the 16-team group stage, with no extra time before penalties. Football Australia said the change followed consultation with member clubs and the Japanese Football Association, aiming to increase excitement and provide high-pressure shootout experience.
