Premier League Summer Spending Hits Record £3.41bn

Premier League clubs have set a new all-time summer transfer spending record at £3.410 billion. The total surpassed last season’s £3.14 billion mark and is more than triple the £1.13 billion English top-flight clubs spent five years earlier.

Iliman Ndiaye’s move to Manchester City pushed spending beyond the previous record before Enzo Fernandez’s £125 million transfer added further to the total. Premier League net spending remained above £1 billion, comfortably the highest figure among Europe’s major leagues.

Manchester City striker Vivianne Miedema will miss the beginning of the Women’s Super League season because of a knee injury. City said the problem is separate from her previous knee injuries, and it is understood she has not suffered another ACL injury.

Miedema scored 10 league goals and supplied five assists as City won last season’s WSL title. She underwent knee surgery after that campaign, and her latest absence adds to City’s injury concerns before they begin their title defence against Birmingham City.

Atletico Madrid Complete Jonathan David Loan From Juventus

Atletico Madrid have completed the signing of Canada striker Jonathan David from Juventus on a season-long loan. The agreement runs until June 2027 and gives Atletico an option to purchase the 26-year-old permanently for €25 million after the campaign.

David joins after scoring six Serie A goals in his first Juventus season and gives Diego Simeone another attacking option alongside Julian Alvarez. Juventus sanctioned the move after bringing in Nick Woltemade on loan from Newcastle United for the season.

Al-Hilal controlled the first half and gained another advantage when Al-Ahli defender Merih Demiral was sent off. The win gave Al-Hilal four victories from four and lifted them level with Al-Nassr on 12 points at the league summit.

Scott McTominay to Undergo Surgery for Heart Arrhythmia

Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay will undergo corrective surgery after the club identified a mild benign heart arrhythmia. The 29-year-old is scheduled for cardiac arrhythmia ablation and will miss Napoli’s next four matches, including games against Inter and Arsenal.

Napoli said McTominay should be available again after the international break. The procedure rules him out of Serie A matches against Inter, Bologna and Fiorentina plus the Champions League meeting with Arsenal before Napoli resume their schedule in October.

Every eligible MLS team will participate in the 2027 U.S. Open Cup, the first full league involvement since 2023. MLS clubs will enter in July at the round-of-64 stage, while the tournament final is scheduled to be played in December.

MLS had reduced participation after citing scheduling congestion and concerns over the competition, prompting significant opposition across American soccer. The revised format avoids overlap with Leagues Cup and follows recent changes including increased prize money and new broadcast arrangements.

Manchester City have completed the signing of Iliman Ndiaye from Everton for £60 million plus £5 million in add-ons. The 26-year-old Senegal winger has signed a five-year contract after City switched targets following the collapse of their Cody Gakpo pursuit.

Ndiaye had also been close to joining Tottenham before Richarlison’s proposed Everton return stalled and disrupted that route. City then moved decisively, adding the winger after losing Savio and Omar Marmoush to Tottenham during the same summer window.

Tottenham turned to Mudryk after missing out on Cody Gakpo and Iliman Ndiaye, while Adarabioyo is viewed as a replacement for departing Kevin Danso. Completing both moves would take Spurs to 10 summer arrivals and spending close to £400 million.

Sunderland Agree £30m Malick Fofana Deal

Sunderland have agreed a deal worth just under £30 million for Lyon winger Malick Fofana. The 21-year-old Belgium international is travelling to England for a medical and is expected to sign a five-year contract before the deadline.

The package contains an initial £25.6 million and up to £4.3 million in add-ons. Arsenal had also tried to sign Fofana but could not agree a fee, allowing Europa League-bound Sunderland to secure the highly rated winger.
