Liverpool produced a dramatic comeback to defeat Villarreal 4-3 at Anfield and secure their third consecutive Champions League victory. Alexis Mac Allister scored twice as Liverpool overturned a two-goal deficit and moved to nine points, sitting second in the league-phase standings behind PSG on goal difference.
Georges Mikautadze capitalised on Virgil van Dijk’s misplaced pass to score in the fourth minute before Sergi Cardona doubled Villarreal’s advantage. Mac Allister began the comeback in the 36th minute and Ronald Araújo equalised in first-half stoppage time. Mac Allister then put Liverpool ahead in the 65th minute, with Wirtz adding a fourth shortly afterwards. Tani Oluwaseyi pulled one back late on, but Liverpool held on for the win.
