Pro Ref admitted an error of judgement in awarding Erling Haaland’s winning goal as Manchester City beat Manchester United 1-0. The body said VAR failed to recognise the likely impact of offside-positioned Enzo Fernandez and should have recommended an on-field review.
Haaland was initially flagged offside before VAR ruled Patrick Dorgu had played him onside. Fernandez had attempted to head the cross while offside near Lisandro Martinez. Pro Ref contacted United after the match and said the incident will now be reviewed.
