Aston Villa, Manchester City, Nicolas Jackson and Erling Haaland
24 October 2026
Aston Villa defeated Manchester City 2-1 at Villa Park, ending City’s seven-match winning start to the Premier League season. Nicolas Jackson scored twice as Unai Emery’s team continued their recovery after a slow domestic start.
Jackson opened the scoring in the sixth minute after John McGinn intercepted Marc Guéhi’s misplaced touch. Haaland equalised for City, but Jackson struck again around the hour mark to restore Villa’s advantage. Goalkeeper Zion Suzuki made important saves as Villa secured their fourth consecutive victory across competitions. Arsenal’s subsequent win over Everton left them level on points with City at the top of the table.
