Borussia Dortmund, Ramy Bensebaini and Niko Kovač
26 October 2026
Borussia Dortmund are reportedly not pursuing a contract extension for defender Ramy Bensebaini, whose current agreement expires in summer 2027. The 31-year-old Algerian has lost his regular starting position despite several strong recent performances.
Ruhr Nachrichten reports that Dortmund have not opened renewal efforts, while Bensebaini’s willingness to extend his stay is also unclear. Coach Niko Kovač has generally preferred Nico Schlotterbeck, Waldemar Anton and Joane Gadou in defence. Bensebaini has featured more regularly in recent matches but remains suspended for Dortmund’s upcoming DFB-Pokal fixture against Werder Bremen. No departure or transfer agreement has been confirmed.
Why It Matters
Dortmund risk losing an experienced defender when his contract expires.
