CONCACAF has confirmed a major format change for the 2027 Gold Cup, replacing four groups of four teams with two groups of eight. Each participating nation will play four group-stage matches instead of three.

Teams will face four opponents selected through a predetermined ranking system, creating more opportunities for leading nations to meet earlier. The top four from each group will advance to the quarterfinals. The tournament runs from 17 June to 11 July 2027, with Saudi Arabia joining as a guest nation. Host locations remain unannounced.

Why It Matters

The new format increases group-stage fixtures and creates opportunities for major regional rivals to meet before the knockout rounds.
