Fenerbahçe, Liverpool, Dirk Kuyt, Archie Brown and Vedat Muriqi
4 November 2026
Fenerbahçe overturned Liverpool’s lead twice to win 3-2 in Istanbul. The defeat was Liverpool’s first in this season’s Champions League and their second consecutive loss in all competitions.
Trey Nyoni’s opener was cancelled out by Mason Greenwood before Alexander Isak restored Liverpool’s lead in the 69th minute. Archie Brown equalised from close range and Muriqi headed the winner six minutes later. All three Fenerbahçe goals originated from set-pieces, exposing Liverpool’s defensive weaknesses. Interim manager Kuyt ended his tenure with a major victory.
Why It Matters
