AC Milan have publicly condemned racist messages directed at goalkeeper Mike Maignan following his red card in Thursday’s 3-0 Europa League defeat against Bournemouth. The club expressed support for the France international and called for an end to discriminatory behaviour.

Maignan was dismissed in the 27th minute following an incident involving Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams. Racist insults subsequently appeared on social media, prompting Milan to issue an official statement. Maignan said his contact with Adams was not intentional. The goalkeeper previously experienced racist abuse during a Serie A match against Udinese in January 2024.

Why It Matters

The incident renews concerns about racist abuse targeting footballers after poor performances.
