John Terry, Colchester United, Robbie Cowling, Alexandre Pato
11 June 2026
A John Terry-led consortium’s proposed takeover of Colchester United has fallen through after extended due diligence and discussions. The League Two club said both parties agreed not to proceed with the transaction on amicable terms.
It is the second failed takeover attempt since Robbie Cowling put Colchester on the market in September 2025. A previous consortium involving Alexandre Pato was also rejected earlier this year, leaving the club’s ownership search unresolved.
