Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka received the 2026 Socrates Award at the Ballon d’Or ceremony for supporting medical treatment for children in Nigeria. His charitable work helped fund 120 surgical procedures for children with serious health conditions.
Saka partnered with the BigShoe charitable foundation to support operations for children affected by conditions including hernias and brain tumours. The award recognises footballers who make meaningful humanitarian contributions beyond their playing careers. Previous recipients include Sadio Mané, Vinícius Júnior and Jenni Hermoso.
