Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has been discharged from hospital following his collapse at the club’s training ground. Doctors identified meningeal irritation, involving inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord.

Sporting director Max Eberl confirmed the diagnosis and said Kompany was recovering well. The Belgian manager will continue resting and taking medication, although Bayern have not announced a return date. Assistant Aaron Danks remains in charge of the team, including preparations for Saturday’s Bundesliga showdown against Borussia Dortmund.
