Celtic and Rangers must play their next home Scottish Cup matches behind closed doors after an appeals tribunal upheld sanctions arising from crowd disorder during last season’s Old Firm quarter-final.

Both clubs unsuccessfully appealed their stadium closures following incidents involving pitch invasions, fireworks and injured police officers. Each must also pay £100,000 to the visiting club for their next home cup tie. However, the tribunal removed a separate suspended supporter ban for further offences. Celtic criticised the ruling as excessive, while Rangers had not commented at the time of the report.

Why It Matters

Both clubs lose home support and face financial consequences during their next Scottish Cup ties.
