Sebastian Berhalter is finalising a summer transfer from Vancouver Whitecaps to Middlesbrough. The Championship club will pay around $2m rather than waiting for the United States midfielder to become a free agent.
Berhalter featured in all five United States matches at the World Cup and scored against Turkey. Middlesbrough beat serious interest from several clubs and continue building links with the American player market.
