Nauru, a tiny Pacific island with almost no football history, is trying to build the sport from scratch. Volunteers want to distribute balls to children, train coaches and eventually field the country’s first senior international team.
The project faces scarce land, limited pitches, strong Aussie rules culture and health challenges, including high obesity rates. Organisers are shifting away from one-off matches and towards youth development that could produce a national side within years.
