Asian Football Confederation, Prince Ali bin Al Hussein and Gianni Infantino
27 October 2026
The Asian Football Confederation has announced plans to refer Jordan Football Association president Prince Ali bin Al Hussein to its judicial bodies following allegations about the conduct of a recent AFC congress. Prince Ali accused football officials of restricting debate and using the meeting to promote FIFA president Gianni Infantino’s re-election.
The dispute followed the AFC’s extraordinary congress in Tokyo, where president Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa endorsed Infantino. Prince Ali claimed delegates were prevented from speaking or questioning proceedings. The AFC rejected those claims and said allegations involving coercion, threats or bribery must be supported by credible evidence. The matter will be considered under the confederation’s judicial procedures, with no disciplinary finding announced.
Why It Matters
The dispute raises new questions about governance and freedom of debate within Asian football.
