Burnley, Fabio Celestini, Diego López and Nicky Hayen
28 October 2026
Burnley have appointed former FC Basel manager Fabio Celestini as head coach, four days after dismissing Nicky Hayen. The club sit 22nd in the Championship after winning only one league match this season.
Celestini, 50, previously guided Basel to the Swiss league and cup double in 2024-25 and won the Russian Super Cup with CSKA Moscow. Newly appointed director of football Diego López led the recruitment process. Celestini inherits a team without a home league victory for more than a year and must immediately address Burnley’s poor results.
Why It Matters
Burnley's new manager faces an urgent challenge to move the club away from relegation.
