Argentina Football Association, FIFA, Leandro Paredes and Nahuel Molina
7 November 2026
Argentina’s football association plans to take its disciplinary dispute with FIFA to the Court of Arbitration for Sport after appeals over punishments linked to the 2026 World Cup were rejected.
FIFA maintained Paredes’ ten-match suspension following clashes after Argentina’s World Cup final defeat to Spain. Molina’s seven-match ban was reduced to four, while the association faces a $321,000 fine for disciplinary breaches. Argentina will request FIFA’s written reasoning before pursuing arbitration. The sanctions also concern conduct during and after the tournament, including demonstrations and supporters’ discriminatory behaviour.
Why It Matters
The planned appeal could change major international suspensions and test FIFA's disciplinary decisions following the World Cup.
