CD Tenerife, Jesús de Miguel, Elvira González and Spanish emergency medical professionals
5 November 2026
A Spanish medical organisation has requested further information about emergency treatment provided to Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel following the collision that led to his death. No medical negligence has been established.
Elvira González, president of Spain’s Association of Nurses, Emergency Medics and Caregivers, raised questions about the timing of resuscitation and possible defibrillator use. Medical staff attended De Miguel shortly after he collapsed, while investigators are separately examining the circumstances of the collision. The organisation says it cannot determine whether treatment was appropriate without additional information.
Why It Matters
The scrutiny could lead to stronger emergency medical procedures at professional football matches.
