Brighton, Manchester City, Bart Verbruggen, Fabian Hürzeler and Enzo Maresca
31 October 2026
Brighton secured a historic 1-0 away victory against Manchester City, climbing to third place in the Premier League. Goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen made seven saves as Brighton inflicted a second consecutive league defeat on the hosts.
Brighton defended resolutely despite sustained City pressure, with Verbruggen denying several dangerous chances, including a fierce Matheus Nunes effort. The victory came just three days after Brighton lost to City on penalties in the Carabao Cup. Brighton also became the first visiting league side to keep a clean sheet at the Etihad since August 2025.
Why It Matters
Brighton move closer to the title contenders while City's second straight league defeat weakens their position.
