Norway, Brazil and Erling Haaland
Sunday at MetLife Stadium
Norway stunned Brazil 2-1 to reach the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time, with Erling Haaland scoring twice late on. The defeat sends the five-time champions home at their earliest World Cup stage since 1990.
Haaland broke through after Andreas Schjelderup twice created openings from the left, first for a header and then a stoppage-time finish. Brazil missed key chances, including Bruno Guimaraes’ penalty, before Neymar’s late penalty came too late.
