Athletic Club handed Atletico Madrid their first defeat of the La Liga season with a 3-0 victory at San Mames. Nico Williams and Robert Navarro scored within two minutes after half-time before Oihan Sancet added the third late on.
Atletico began without a recognised centre-forward and introduced Julian Alvarez after falling two goals behind, but he could not change the match. The defeat came before difficult away fixtures against Liverpool in the Champions League and Real Sociedad in La Liga.
