Chelsea opened their Women’s Champions League campaign with a 1-0 victory over debutants Austria Wien at Plough Lane. Wieke Kaptein scored the only goal in the 11th minute, striking from the edge of the area off the underside of the crossbar.
Austria Wien threatened an equaliser and hit the post late on, while goalkeeper Livia Peng made several important saves for Chelsea. The win was tempered by Keira Walsh leaving the match after 20 minutes with an apparent injury that was not diagnosed in the article.
