Lionel Messi became the top scorer in World Cup history after netting twice in Argentina’s 2-0 victory over Austria. He missed an early penalty but recovered to move clear of Miroslav Klose on 18 goals.
Argentina secured qualification for the round of 32 with six points from two matches. Messi has scored all five of their goals so far, strengthening both his Golden Boot push and Argentina’s title defence.
