Crystal Palace have lost their appeal against Jean-Philippe Mateta’s red card during Saturday’s defeat to Tottenham. The France striker must now serve a three-match domestic suspension.
Mateta was dismissed following a video review of his challenge on Micky van de Ven. Palace argued that the contact was accidental, but the appeal was unsuccessful. Mateta will miss league fixtures against Liverpool, Coventry City and Hull City. He remains eligible for Palace’s Europa League matches against Hoffenheim and Real Sociedad.
