French police are investigating suspected insider trading after 12 Polymarket accounts correctly predicted the exact finishing order of the 2026 men’s Ballon d’Or top five. No wrongdoing has been established.

Reports indicate that approximately €250,000 was wagered across the accounts, generating nearly €200,000 in profit. The predictions correctly placed Harry Kane ahead of Kylian Mbappé, Lamine Yamal, Rodri and Lionel Messi. Investigators are examining whether confidential voting information was obtained before the ceremony. France Football is also investigating the allegations.

Why It Matters

A proven leak could undermine the confidentiality of Ballon d'Or voting and trigger consequences for those responsible.
