FIFA is preparing a proposal to at least double prize money for the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil. However, the increase would still fall short of matching the men’s tournament payments.

The proposal is expected to go before the FIFA Council in December. The 2023 Women’s World Cup distributed $110 million in direct prize money, while the proposed 2027 target is approximately $220 million. FIFA has separately confirmed $2.5 million in preparation funding for each participating association, matching the men’s 2026 allocation. Final prize-money figures remain subject to approval.

Why It Matters

Women's football could receive substantially more funding, although the World Cup prize-money gap would remain.
