Real Madrid beat Inter Milan 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu in their Champions League opener, with Kylian Mbappe scoring his 71st goal in the competition. The milestone moved the French forward level with Raul in fifth place all-time.
Mbappe opened the scoring after 14 minutes before Federico Valverde capitalised on goalkeeper Josep Martinez’s error to make it 2-0. Carlos Augusto pulled one back late, but Madrid survived sustained Inter pressure and seven saves from Thibaut Courtois helped secure victory.
