Gotham FC and Spanish striker Esther Gonzalez have mutually terminated her contract as she temporarily steps away from football for personal matters in Spain. The 33-year-old leaves as Gotham’s all-time regular-season leading scorer with 30 goals.
Gonzalez helped Gotham win two NWSL championships and two additional major trophies after joining in 2023. Her abrupt departure follows the arrival of Sam Kerr and comes while the champions await an injury diagnosis for defender Emily Sonnett.
