New Zealand defender Tyler Bindon and his mother Jenny Bindon have become the first mother-son duo to play at World Cups. Tyler appeared against Iran, while Jenny represented New Zealand at the 2007 and 2011 women’s tournaments.
The milestone added a historic note to New Zealand’s 2-2 draw with Iran, even though the All Whites missed a first World Cup win. Tyler later said he was proud to share the achievement with his mother.
