Lampard Takes Coventry Back to the Premier League After 25 Years

Frank Lampard has sealed Coventry City’s return to the Premier League after a 25-year absence, with a 1-1 draw at Blackburn enough to secure promotion. Bobby Thomas scored the late equaliser that confirmed the club’s place back in the top flight. Coventry needed only a point and got it in dramatic fashion after Blackburn took the lead. Thomas headed in late to spark huge celebrations among the away fans, capping Lampard’s strong turnaround after taking over in November 2024

Wrexham trailed from the 13th minute and looked set for defeat until deep into stoppage time, when a scrambled set piece ended with Nathan Broadhead’s volley deflecting off Max Cleworth and spinning in to secure a 1-1 draw and preserve an eight-game unbeaten run. Blackburn struck early through Andri Gudjohnsen and threatened a second after the break, only for Arthur Okonkwo to keep Wrexham alive. In the 95th minute a contentious wide free kick prompted chaos, Kiefer Moore nodded back across goal and the loose ball broke to Broadhead, whose fierce strike clipped Cleworth and triggered a “Legend” shout from co-owner Rob McElhenney online.
