River Plate, Atletico Madrid and Thiago Almada

Thiago Almada has officially joined River Plate from Atletico Madrid in a major return to Argentine football. River reportedly committed about €20m to secure the World Cup winner, who rejected other interest including a lucrative approach from Flamengo.
Almada said conversations with coach Eduardo Coudet, Nicolas Otamendi and Angel Di Maria heavily influenced his decision. River are making him a marquee part of their rebuild as they seek improved results and greater competitiveness against South America’s strongest clubs.
