Aziz Akhannouch, Fouzi Lekjaa, Morocco and FIFA
11 September 2026
Morocco’s prime minister Aziz Akhannouch has publicly told federation president Fouzi Lekjaa to stop promising the 2030 World Cup final to Morocco. The intervention follows FIFA’s statement that no final venue has been decided between the tournament’s co-hosting nations.
Lekjaa had claimed the planned 115,000-seat stadium in Benslimane would host the showpiece, while Spain is also pressing its case. Akhannouch said Morocco must first discuss the matter with co-hosts Spain and Portugal and warned against electoral promises.
