Finn Azaz, Republic of Ireland and Southampton
21 October 2026
Southampton forward Finn Azaz has confirmed that he intends to continue representing the Republic of Ireland, rejecting speculation that he might retire from international football. The clarification follows controversy surrounding Ireland’s recent Nations League matches against Israel.
Azaz told BBC Radio Solent that he would remain available for international selection. The 26-year-old qualifies for Ireland through his father and has made 16 appearances since his debut in 2024. Reports questioning his future emerged after he remained an unused substitute during two politically sensitive matches against Israel. Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrímsson acknowledged that the situation had been particularly difficult for Azaz. No international retirement has been announced.
