Football Association of Wales, Noel Mooney, Gianni Infantino and FIFA
27 October 2026
Football Association of Wales chief executive Noel Mooney has reaffirmed the organisation’s demand for FIFA president Gianni Infantino to step down. The association remains critical of governance practices following the controversial FIFA Forward Enterprise investment proposal.
Mooney said the Welsh association had withdrawn support for Infantino’s re-election in August and had not changed its position. He argued that FIFA’s leadership structure places excessive power in the president’s hands and requires wider reform. The dispute concerns a proposed sale of interests in FIFA competitions to private investors, which prompted UEFA to demand governance documents and answers by 2 November. Infantino has maintained that he enjoys broad support across international football.
Why It Matters
Wales remains a prominent opponent of Infantino ahead of FIFA's presidential election.
