Uruguay has reportedly introduced a new electronic system for displaying yellow and red cards during Nacional’s 3-0 Uruguayan Cup victory over Rentistas. The technology replaces traditional physical cards with a handheld digital display and automatically records disciplinary decisions.

Referee Eduardo Varela used the device to issue a yellow card to Juan Pablo Blada in the 12th minute. The system displays card colours on a screen and records incidents electronically without requiring an internet connection. The Uruguayan Football Association hopes to extend the technology to substitutions and penalties, although visibility problems were reported during the initial trial.
