Southend United sacked head coach Kevin Maher just two days after he led the club to its first domestic trophy by winning the FA Trophy at Wembley. Darren Currie and Mark Bentley also left the coaching staff.
Southend said the decision followed a review of the season, despite Maher’s Wembley success and his long history with the club. The board has now started a search for a new head coach after missing promotion.
