Somali Referee Gets UEFA Super Cup Appointment

Somali referee Omar Artan has been appointed to officiate the UEFA Super Cup between Aston Villa and Paris Saint-Germain after being denied entry to the United States for the World Cup because Somalia is covered by a travel ban.

UEFA’s appointment makes Artan the first non-European referee selected for the Super Cup and follows his forced return from Miami in June. The decision gives him a major international assignment after immigration rules prevented his planned World Cup participation.
