Frosinone have made Austria midfielder Romano Schmid their club-record signing after completing his move from Werder Bremen. The promoted Serie A side will reportedly pay €8.5m initially, potentially rising to €10.5m, following major new investment from US fund Clara Vista.

Clara Vista bought 80% of Frosinone for €41.5m this summer and is providing liquidity for squad, academy and infrastructure investment. Schmid headlines an unusually expensive recruitment drive as the club tries to avoid immediate relegation after each of its previous promotions.
