Josh Wander, co-founder of football investor 777 Partners, pleaded guilty in New York to wire and securities fraud. He agreed to repay $500 million after admitting that misleading financial claims helped secure funds from lenders and investors.
Prosecutors said the firm pledged assets it did not own and misrepresented its financial position. Its investments included Genoa, Hertha Berlin, Standard Liège and Vasco da Gama; a proposed Everton takeover failed in 2024. Sentencing is scheduled for 1 March.
