The league has unveiled a special Las Vegas court for the Emirates NBA Cup Knockout Rounds, featuring the tournament trophy at center court, the full eight-team bracket beneath it and a 5×5 mosaic pattern carried across the floor. Designed by Victor Solomon in collaboration with the NBA and teams, the floor mirrors this season’s in-season court concepts, placing Cup trophies in both paints to give the semifinals and championship on Prime Video a distinct visual identity and reinforce the competition as a standalone marquee event.

Friday, Game 6 of first-round series
Fred VanVleet’s 29-point night, including a pivotal four-point play to start the fourth, powered the Rockets past Golden State 115-107, evening the series 3-3. He’s hit 18 threes in his last three games.
VanVleet’s clutch shooting exploited Golden State’s defensive shift toward limiting Jalen Green, who was held to 12 points. Houston opened the final quarter on a 6-0 run and capitalized on Warriors’ poor shooting stretch to pull away late.

Michigan rolled past Tennessee 95-62 to reach its first Final Four since 2018, with Yaxel Lendeborg scoring 27 points in another dominant display. The Wolverines used their size, balance and a huge first-half run to take control and never let Tennessee recover. Michigan blew the game open with a 21-0 run in the first half and finished with six players scoring at least 11 points. Reuters and AP both noted that Elliot Cadeau had 10 assists, while Tennessee struggled badly from the field and again fell short of a Final Four under Rick Barnes.

The NBA announced its 2024-25 All-NBA teams, led by MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. He was joined on the First Team by Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jayson Tatum, and Donovan Mitchell. LeBron James earned a record 21st All-NBA selection, while Cade Cunningham’s Third Team inclusion triggered a $269M supermax deal.
The selections were made by a 100-member international panel. Other key awards this season included DPOY (Mobley), Coach of the Year (Atkinson), and Rookie of the Year (Stephon Castle).

Wembanyama is close to returning from a strained left calf after four weeks out, with coach Mitch Johnson saying the center had an intense workout and could be ready for the Cup semifinal in Las Vegas. He has missed 12 straight games since November 14. San Antonio have surprisingly gone 9-3 without him, riding Stephon Castle, De’Aaron Fox and a deep rotation, but Johnson still calls Wembanyama the biggest puzzle piece. His comeback would add scoring, rim protection and star power as the Spurs push for a place in Tuesday’s Cup final.

After firing coach Michael Malone and GM Calvin Booth near season’s end, the Nuggets stormed back to defeat the Clippers 120-101 in Game 7, showcasing a deep team performance that echoed their 2023 championship run.
Despite Jokic’s quiet night (16 pts), Denver’s bench — led by Braun and Westbrook — overwhelmed LA, with six players scoring double digits. Westbrook hit 42% from 3, exploiting defensive gaps. The Nuggets now face the Thunder in Round 2.

Morocco defeated Senegal 55-47 to secure a place in the final of the African Wheelchair Basketball Championship. Morocco controlled enough of the game to protect their advantage, while Senegal’s comeback effort fell short after halftime. Match reporting said Morocco managed the game well from the opening stages and took a 29-25 lead into the break. Senegal pushed in the second half, but Morocco’s organisation and composure held firm to send them through to the title match.
