Spence’s arrival moves the deal beyond negotiations and places formal completion within reach. Tottenham can now continue reshaping their defensive group, while Serie A champions Inter add an athletic full-back who impressed during England’s run at the summer World Cup.

Friday

Southampton head coach Tonda Eckert is expected to face an FA misconduct hearing in mid-September over his role in the club’s spying scandal. Southampton were already removed from last season’s Championship play-offs and handed a four-point deduction for 2026-27.

The FA investigation is examining who participated in the spying and who knew about it. A lengthy sanction against Eckert could force Southampton to reconsider his position despite owner Dragan Solak previously saying the 33-year-old deserves another chance.

Tottenham are reportedly closing in on an agreement worth around £60m for Manchester City winger Savinho. The 22-year-old missed City’s latest training session through illness as Spurs continue negotiations for a player identified as a major attacking target this summer.

The timing increases expectations that the deal could advance before the transfer deadline, although Savinho’s absence was officially attributed to illness rather than negotiations. Tottenham are pushing to add another high-level winger after extensive summer squad changes under Roberto De Zerbi.

Friday

Manchester City are reportedly preparing a €120m offer for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez as they reshape midfield following Tijjani Reijnders’ departure. Chelsea have set a deadline for bids and are said to value the Argentina international substantially above City’s proposed figure.

The move would turn City’s earlier interest into a concrete attempt before Chelsea’s deadline. Fernandez is reportedly open to joining, but the clubs remain apart on valuation, meaning City must decide whether to increase an already enormous proposal to complete the transfer.

Friday

English football will adopt a wide package of new laws for 2026-27 designed to reduce deliberate delays and increase playing time. Changes cover throw-ins, goal-kicks, substitutions, injury stoppages, goalkeeper treatment and several expanded areas of VAR intervention.

Players taking too long over restarts can lose possession, substitutes may be delayed from entering and teams can temporarily lose an outfielder when goalkeepers require treatment. VAR can also review second yellow cards that directly produce a sending-off.

Liverpool midfielder Sofie Lundgaard has completed a permanent transfer to Eintracht Frankfurt for an undisclosed fee. The 24-year-old Denmark midfielder leaves after three and a half years on Merseyside, where serious knee and ankle injuries repeatedly interrupted her playing time.

Lundgaard made 42 appearances for Liverpool after arriving from Fortuna Hjorring in January 2023. Moving to the Frauen-Bundesliga gives her a fresh start and a route toward regular football after rehabilitation limited her involvement during recent seasons.

New Zealand Withdraws Support For Gianni Infantino

Friday

New Zealand Football has formally withdrawn support for FIFA president Gianni Infantino and called for an independent review into the abandoned FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal. The decision puts New Zealand at odds with the wider Oceania Football Confederation’s more supportive stance.

New Zealand joins several European associations opposing Infantino while OFC stopped short of withdrawing backing and praised FIFA’s development work in Oceania. The split further fragments the voting landscape ahead of FIFA’s next presidential election in March.

Bayern Munich sporting chief Max Eberl has publicly ruled out an agreement with Aston Villa for Joao Palhinha. Villa wanted a loan arrangement for the Portugal midfielder, while Bayern are insisting on a permanent transfer and will not accept the proposed structure.

Palhinha had reportedly agreed potential contract terms with Villa, but Eberl said there was no chance of an agreement under the current proposal. The statement represents a clear reversal after negotiations had advanced and leaves Bayern searching for another buyer.

Al Ahly have completed the signing of 18-year-old Ghazl El Mahalla prospect Mahmoud Salah on a five-year contract. The Egyptian club announced the deal shortly after Youssef Belammari suffered a serious cruciate ligament injury during preseason preparations.

Salah becomes Al Ahly’s sixth summer signing as the club continues strengthening its squad before the new campaign. Al Ahly are separately pursuing Petrojet left-back Tawfik Mohamed as a more direct solution to the defensive gap created by Belammari’s injury.
