NCAA Division I members have overturned a previously approved plan to split the men’s college soccer season across autumn and spring. The traditional autumn championship season will remain in place.

The proposal was initially adopted in October but remained subject to a 30-day rescission period. A total of 247 schools voted to overturn it, exceeding the required threshold of 241. Opponents cited additional costs, staffing demands, facility conflicts and scheduling difficulties. Supporters had argued that spreading matches across two semesters would improve player recovery, reduce fixture congestion and support development.

Why It Matters

The vote blocks a major scheduling reform intended to improve player development and reduce fixture congestion in American college soccer.
