FIFPRO and professional women’s footballers worldwide
12 October 2026
A new FIFPRO survey of more than 800 women’s footballers reveals widespread financial insecurity and psychological pressure despite the sport’s commercial growth. Fifty-nine percent cited financial reasons for potentially leaving football early, while 46% identified psychological stress as a factor.
The survey found that 57% of respondents had struggled with their mental health and 24% experienced late payments over the previous two seasons. Women’s football revenue is projected to exceed $1 billion in 2027, but FIFPRO warns that player protections have not kept pace with commercial growth.
