UEFA and CONCACAF have reportedly proposed distributing more than $2 billion from FIFA’s financial reserves to football associations instead of selling commercial rights. The proposal challenges FIFA president Gianni Infantino’s funding strategy ahead of a FIFA Council meeting on 15 October.
The reported plan would allocate $10 million to each of FIFA’s 211 national associations, $36 million to each regional confederation and $3 million to sub-regional bodies. Its proponents estimate FIFA would retain $2.6 billion in cash reserves, potentially avoiding the proposed sale of a 20% stake in tournament commercial rights. No approval has been announced.
