Portugal opened their Nations League title defence with a 1-0 win over Wales in Lisbon. Joao Felix scored the decisive goal with a deflected first-half strike, giving new head coach Jorge Jesus victory in his first competitive match.
Portugal controlled long spells and also had a Cristiano Ronaldo goal ruled out for offside. Wales finished strongly, with Brennan Johnson and Lewis Koumas threatening late, but could not find an equaliser before Sunday’s next match against Denmark.
