Omar Artan has been appointed to referee the UEFA Super Cup after being denied entry to the United States for the World Cup. UEFA said the decision followed talks with CAF and was made to recognise his officiating level.
Artan had been set to become the first Somali referee at a World Cup before U.S. border officials turned him away in Miami. The Super Cup appointment gives him a major European fixture after missing the tournament.
