Real Madrid have informed Liverpool they no longer intend to move for Ibrahima Konate, ending the defender’s hopes of a dream Santiago Bernabeu switch at the same time as his Anfield future remains unresolved with contract talks still stuck and his deal running down. Liverpool first tried to extend Konate’s contract in 2023, but recent errors and a poor display in the 4-1 defeat to PSV have dragged focus from negotiations. With Madrid out of the race he can still speak to foreign clubs in January while Slot keeps picking him amid a thin defensive group.
