Liverpool are preparing to end James McConnell’s season-long loan at Ajax in January after limited minutes in Amsterdam. Several Championship clubs are already tracking the midfielder, who signed a new five-year Liverpool deal before leaving on loan in the summer. McConnell’s opportunities dropped after Ajax changed coaches, and he has recently been left out of the first team. Dutch reports say Liverpool want him back to restart his development, with West Brom, Derby, Oxford United and Swansea linked as possible next-loan destinations.

Nottingham Forest fans ridiculed Ange Postecoglou after his side threw away a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 against Swansea in the Carabao Cup. It was Postecoglou’s second defeat in two games since replacing Nuno Espírito Santo as Forest boss. Igor Jesus scored twice to give Forest control, but Cameron Burgess and Zan Vipotnik struck late before Burgess added a 97th-minute winner. The collapse, echoing Postecoglou’s poor season at Spurs, left supporters questioning whether his arrival was the right call.
