Arteta demands Arsenal “stand up” after Wolves collapse ruins two-goal lead

Mikel Arteta
February 2026

Arteta criticised the second-half performance and said the team must “stand up” during a difficult spell. Saka ended his goal drought with an early header from Rice’s cross after being used centrally, and Hincapie doubled the lead early in the second half. Wolves responded through a long-range Bueno strike and then a late equaliser, punishing Arsenal for a flat second half and poor game management.

Arsenal hit by Cristhian Mosquera injury blow

Cristhian Mosquera
December 2025

Arsenal have confirmed centre back Mosquera will miss several weeks after landing awkwardly during the win over Brentford. The summer signing now joins fellow defenders William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes on the sidelines, stripping depth from an already stretched back line. Arteta admitted scans showed a worse problem than first expected and ruled the defender out for “weeks”. He has responded by shifting Jurrien Timber and Piero Hincapie into central roles and even using Christian Norgaard at centre back as Arsenal try to cope while protecting a narrow lead in the title race.

Maresca fumes over Hincapie elbow after Caicedo sending off

Piero Hincapie
December 2025

Enzo Maresca argued Piero Hincapie should have been sent off for elbowing Trevoh Chalobah under the eye, criticising what he sees as inconsistent refereeing after Moises Caicedo was correctly dismissed for a dangerous tackle and referencing previous leniency shown to Rodrigo Bentancur against Chelsea. Hincapie received only a yellow following VAR review on the aerial clash that left Chalobah with visible facial swelling, while Caicedo’s studs-up lunge on Mikel Merino was upgraded to red, prompting Maresca to accept the dismissal but demand clarity on why similar high and reckless challenges are judged differently week to week.

Arsenal Cancel Kiwior Flight Amid Hincapie Chase

Jakub Kiwior (Arsenal)
August 2025

Arsenal halted Jakub Kiwior’s transfer to Porto, cancelling a private jet arranged for his travel, as they wait to finalise a deal for Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie. Porto had agreed personal terms with Kiwior for a season-long loan with buy clause. Arsenal want Hincapie before sanctioning Kiwior’s exit, but Leverkusen are demanding his £52m release clause be met. Hincapie has agreed personal terms with Arsenal, yet negotiations stall, leaving Kiwior’s proposed £22.5m move to Porto in limbo.

Hincapié a Backup Option if Alonso Joins Madrid

Piero Hincapié (Bayer Leverkusen)
Summer 2025

Real Madrid may turn to Piero Hincapié if they miss out on Saliba. The Ecuadorian has a €60m clause but could be available for around €40m.
With defensive injuries piling up, Madrid value Hincapié’s versatility. Xabi Alonso, who may take over as manager, is a known admirer.
